VICTIM INFO:                      Aina Viksne  



Aina Viksne was located by a citizen after she had driven her vehicle into a ditch.  That citizen
transported her to Thrasher’s Pit Stop.  The clerk on duty contacted the police.  Ms. Viksne did not
suffer any injury.  Arrangements were made to have her vehicle returned and with the assistance of her
pastor she was reunited with her husband.  


Township of Kalamazoo Police Department would like to thank the news media and citizens for their
assistance in this investigation.

                                                     NEWS RELEASE

INCIDENT TYPE:                Shots Fired/ Flee and Elude                       

DATE OCCURRED:             Monday, October 15, 2012   TIME: 20:37 HOURS

LOCATION OCCURRED:      1500 BLK Elkerton near Junction, Kalamazoo Township


Kalamazoo Township Police Department received a report of shots fired near the intersection of Elkerton
St and Junction Ave.  The 911 caller reported seeing a white colored vehicle leaving the area East bound
on Gull Rd.  Responding units located a vehicle matching that description with three occupants. Officers
attempted to stop the vehicle however it fled Eastbound on Gull Rd at a high rate of speed. The suspect
vehicle collided with another southbound vehicle on Sprinkle Rd. Officers quickly apprehended two
suspects from the suspect vehicle; however the driver could not be located and remains at-large.

The driver of the second vehicle was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

                                                    NEWS RELEASE

INCIDENT TYPE:                    Arrest for Delivery of a Controlled Substance Resulting in Death        

DATE OCCURRED:                 October 12, 2012                        

LOCATION OCCURRED:          500 block of Dayton

VICTIM INFO:                        Harold Harris Cartwright 43 year old white male

INJURIES RECEIVED:             Death        


Kathryn Cartwright turned herself in to the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department to be arrested on
the charge of Delivery of a controlled substance resulting in death.  Cartwright has been charged with
supplying heroin to her husband, Harold Cartwright, that resulted in his death.

On June 25, 2012 officers from the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department responded to the
Cartwright’s residence in the 500 block of Dayton in reference to the death of Harold Cartwright.  Based
upon the investigation that day and the Medical Examiner’s determination that Harold Cartwright’s death
was the result in part of heroin furnished by his wife the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department
submitted for charges to the Kalamazoo County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.

A one count warrant for Delivery of a Controlled Substance Resulting in Death was authorized.  Kathryn
Cartwright was arraigned on October 12, 2012 in front of the Honorable Vincent Westra.  Bond was set
in the amount of $50,000 cash.  The preliminary examination has been set for October 24, 2012 at 1:30

The investigation into the death is ongoing.
