                                       Township of Kalamazoo Police Department News Release

DATE OCCURRED:             Sunday, January 29, 2012   TIME: 09:40 A.M.

LOCATION OCCURRED:   2100 Block of Oak Openings, Kalamazoo Township


A Kalamazoo Township Police officer was dispatched to the 2100 block of Oak Openings to investigate a report of a
vehicle sliding off the road and crashing into a fence.  Upon arrival the officer learned the driver of the vehicle had fled the
scene on foot.  He followed the suspect’s footprints in the snow to a residence in the 700 block of Fenimore Street. in
Kalamazoo Township and called for assistance. The suspect again fled on foot from the residence and was pursued by the
officer.  The suspect resisted and was taken into custody with the assistance of additional Township officers.  The suspect
was checked at Borgess Medical Center prior to being lodged in the Kalamazoo County Jail for resisting and obstructing a
police officer and parole violation.  The officer was treated and released at Bronson Methodist Hospital for a broken nose
suffered when he tackled the suspect as they went over a fence.      

Officers discovered the suspect’s vehicle contained several thousand dollars worth of stolen computer equipment.  The
Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety assisted and confirmed a business in the 3400 Blk. of Gull Rd in the City of
Kalamazoo was broken into and the property in the suspect’s vehicle appears to be from that store.  They are conducting
an investigation and may seek additional charges on the suspect.  It appears all the stolen property was successfully

SUSPECT: A 35 year old Kalamazoo man whose name will be withheld until he is formally charged.  The case will be
submitted to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office for review on Monday, January 30, 2012.

INCIDENT TYPE:                Home Invasion / Aggravated Stalking        

DATE OCCURRED:             January 8, 2011

LOCATION OCCURRED:  1300 Block of Coolidge, Kalamazoo Township

At approximately 12:40 p.m., Kalamazoo Township Police Officers responded to the 1300 block of Coolidge on a report
of a subject who had broken into his ex-girlfriends unoccupied home.  The female returned to her house with friends and
discovered the suspect inside the home.   , officers found the suspect had fled prior to officers arriving.

A neighbor in the area contacted police on scene and advised he was just returning to his home and stated he believed his
home had been broken into as well. With assistance from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety and the Western
Michigan University Police Department, officers found the suspect hiding inside.  The suspect had fled from the first location
upon being discovered by his ex-girlfriend and had broken into the second home, in an apparent attempt to evade police.  

The subject was taken into custody and lodged at the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department to await arraignment on
criminal charges.
